Review: 'The Blues Against Youth'
'Gianni Tbay's Blues Against Youth'

-  Label: 'Escape From Today'
-  Genre: 'Blues' -  Release Date: '2.5.25.'

Our Rating:
Gianni Tbay's Blues Against Youth is the Seventh album by The Blues Against Youth and this time it is more of a full band effort than his usual one-man band configuration. The Ensemble for the album are Gugliemo Nodari, Davide Richichi, Luca Colombrita, Andrea Rossi, Simone Pozzi and Chiara Mantovanelli. The album was produced By Gianni Tbay and Recorded by Manuel Volpe at Rubedo Studio.

The album opens with Lost And Sound a slow rootsy blues for anyone chasing after that elusive sound, somewhere between the delta and the mountain shack at the far end of a trail, the band are whipping up a storm of restraint, cool harmonica blowing in the wind, basic backbeat drumming and the guitar flying all over the deep blues.

Discomfort Zone is where you will always find Gianni at parties, noticing how the world is collapsing around him, making it hard to earn a crust as a down at heel bluesman from the mean streets of Torino.

Learn This Right and these blues licks will serve you well young man, you may need to go to the crossroads, but you can find that country groove while jumping that train to Milano, this builds and builds with some honky tonk piano and sing along chorus.

What A Find is a drinking song for a man in need of a gallon of grappa and a good tune in the forest, where he finds his perfect refuge. Goin' To California has a steel guitar laid back Jimmie Rodgers feel, to this reworking of Jimmies classic song.

Low-Swinging Bad News is what you are, no matter how special you are Gianni has seen through you, he’ll punish you with that New Orleans style trumpet solo and a solid groove to work through this nasty break up.

I'll Try Not To he won't guarantee to succeed mind, but we all need to try to do better, shuffling intense blues set to the mantra of trying to never hurt anybody.

That Devilish Melody In You roars out the speakers, while cooking up a storm of intense organ and guitar, they have been downing quadruple espresso's again.

How Can You Do It? Well how do you manage to spend all of Gianni's cash on fripperies and not on old Son House and Hound Dog Taylor records, go on get, leave him alone with his records he'll be much happier that way, singing all his favourite Howlin Wolf tunes.

Snake Away has a delta blues guitar feel, before the crackling sounds fade away. The album closes with Emissions is one last sophisticated blues in love with being the living embodiment of the tradition, superbly played this cooks along.
