Hermetic Tonal Briefing is the new album by Simian Life whose press release seems to have gone walkabout, so I have slightly less to go on than normal, the band are based around the Campanella family as Andy, Rob Dominic and Christina are all involved alongside Christof Certaik and Misha Bullock.
The album opens with We Were All Friends Now that has a western desert blues guitar intro. Indescribable Dream slowly drifts dreamily by a gentle bucolic musical backwash.
Wake Up Summer has a sun dappled edge to the guitars helping to make this a hazy psychedelic bliss out tune for the summer season. Colour is a gentle splash of primary paint.
Something Wrong is a slow psyche apology and confession to the fact that you know you've done Something wrong and have Obviously been caught red handed, as penance you intend to sing your favourite song all day long, hope it works.
May Grey has gentle acoustic guitar and a feel like Viva Saturn, for this gently beautiful detective story that will hopefully not bring you down.
Colours All Around sounds like Mungo Jerry on acid, this has lots of odd percussion and tripped out vocals.
Wonderman is sitting on a beach, the sea rolls in and he's strumming on an acoustic guitar, allowing the sun to burn his skin, he wonders at all the great things he can see during this reverie.
Hermetic Tonal Briefing seems to be about the interplay between the acoustic guitar figure and the synths slowly evolving, looking for a way to break out of the cocoon, allowing the reverbed vocals to chill the air.
The album closes with Up On High that will help lift you up on pillows of patchouli and Orange Sunshine, this is perfect for some blissed out tripping. The carefully plucked fade out will help bring you back down towards reality once more.
