This show was part of Aerial Salad's current UK tour to help launch the band's latest Ep Roi De L'Herbe that is released today, my review will be a few days late.
First on were Not My City who were playing as a duo rather than a trio as they often do. They opened with the Grungy college rock urgency of Bring My Soul To You, or at least that was the main chorus, the singer guitarist was doing his best Liam Lynch moves on Everybody, while the drummer pummelled the hell out if his kit.
She's Smiling Now was full of the pangs of youthful love and the hopes that she's smiling at you in nice ways.
As it was like an oven in The Social the singer took his sweaty t-shirt off while introducing the possibly ironic I Hear The Laughing, I doubt it was at his physique, but might have been about his younger days when he was a shy kid, not the cool leader of a band that could break big on the college circuit, if that still exist like it did in the 80's and 90's.
They have looked at the modern world and really only want to Drag It All Down, this was full of anger and pain and could really have done with some bass to round it out. They closed with a Frenzied instrumental freak out that had minimal lyrics.
Soon it was time for Aerial Salad to make sure that London Town knew that Manchester was in the house, before they exploded with energy, into a frantic frenzied set that opened with L.A. that got most of the packed Social moving with the. All Your Dreamin' had mountains of energy as Jamie, resplendent in his designer shirt, yelled all you do is violence at us. The Same 24 Hours (As Beyonce) thankfully wasn't played in a line dance style, but was full on in your face, with some truly splenetic guitar.
For the first verse or so of Tied To Pieces Of Paper Jamie was singing and not playing his guitar, so that it felt like the whole place erupted when his guitar eventually came in. Telekon 5 kept up the frantic pace with some decidedly choppy bass playing by Mike. Such A Pity was played at breakneck speed, that was matched by some of the jumping around in the tightly packed audience, with lots of people singing along.

Temp was full of the frustration of moving from one brief role to the next in the modern gig economy and with some very economical drumming from Jake, who seemed far more forceful than the last time I saw Aerial Salad live. Lazy was greeted with cheers and a huge sing along by most of the audience to this crowd favourite, that went down a storm. Big Business really let out some bile at how most of us get screwed by Big Business most of the time.
Chances just wanted everything to be over so they could start again, with the guitar solo scorching at our ears. My Girl was the only really lovey dovey moment in the set and it didn’t sound romantic more like a frantic fling. There was a good bit of joking about new dance moves to go with current single King Of The Grass that was dedicated to Wimbo, who is apparently the greatest mower Rochdale has ever seen, they did the Strimmer and the Flymo but didn't quite have the strength to do the Qualcast manual mower dance. Still they had some good stripes by the end of the song.
Fever Dream kept the pace up before they closed with Romance that featured Wimbo crowd surfing while playing his bass and most of us singing along at the end of a great set that went down a storm.
