Our Rating:
This split lp brings together French experimental trio Toru and Baltimore based American experimental black metal adventurer Brutalism for a sonic assault on the senses. Torus are Arthur Arsenne, Heloise Francesconi and Nicolas Brisset, who recorded at L'AMI Marseille with Manuel Neyssensas. Brutalism is Terence Hannum who recorded at Wainscot Caverns in Baltimore.

Torus side feature one 21-minute piece Witches' Cliff opening with slow grinding sounds, like you're working a hand lathe, dark tonalities poke through, sound develops similar effects to listening to Wharton Tiers solo pieces, when the hammering comes in with water rushing by, it feels calmer, yet the sense of impending cataclysm is never far away. Screeds of syncretic guitars and muffled noises, like the potter's wheel spinning in the background, drilling sound begins, flutes sustain notes against slow deliberate drumbeats.

Doomed bass and guitars are guided by dank tambourine beat, shaking your synapses loose. Noise terror interference distorts the mind, wailed vocals to scream beyond the void banshee wails, before several false endings.

The Brutalism side opens with Deconstruction Of Interior Voids a dark journey into distorting guitar loops, industrial hammered percussion, classical syncretic motif, unsettling glimpses of the inner collapse, sophistry of sound stretches loops, revolutions in Praise of Blastula haunting your realm. Fugue like procession seeking Baphomet hidden in a petrified forest, beneath the river flowing above, further we slide with each repeating sustaining tones, alarm shrill tone screams out, bass darkness remains.

Voices like ghosts beyond the machine imperil you for forthright honesty, within the Lantern Of Darkness where Conrad, Cale and Reed sought mythical enlightenment, through frequencies illumination sounds, squall bass drilling through the floor, howling miasma, tempest strings soaring through the gloom.
