This is studio debut of Canadian roots duo Gordie Tentrees and Jaxon Haldane which follows on from their 2018 live album, Grit.
Comprised of ten original songs, the album was recorded during a stop-off at Nashville, where the pair took advantage of some of Music City’s finest players.
The recording was overseen by Australian producer Nash Chambers with a supporting cast comprised of Charlie McCoy on harmonica , fiddler Tania Elizabeth, bassist Steve Mackey and drummer Shawn Fichter.
Given that this is an album promoted as drawing from a century of North American music traditions it is never going to break new ground nor arouse much excitement.
The songs are rooted in nostalgia for Bygone Days and bitter-sweet reflections on the passage of time.
It is solid and homely, well-played and honest but also a bit dull and predictable.
