Tawny Ellis was born in Savannah, Georgia. She currently lives in Los Angeles where producer Daniel Lanois is one of her neighbours. Lanois apparently guests on one of the songs but I couldn’t honestly tell you which.
Ellis’s sixth studio album is co-produced with her husband Gio Loria at their Silver Lake home studio and oozes security and stays well within the singer’s comfort zone.
Flicker of the Flame is flagged for ‘explicit lyrics’ on Spotify which raises hope that the content with be meatier and more interesting. However, only the line “Trying to be someone in this hard bitch of a Town” could remotely be conceived as explicit. The song is about a former lover but she can’t even remember why they broke up and admits she hardly thinks of him anymore. Not exactly revelatory stuff!
Despite trying to look raunchy in the video to Sweet Georgia, all the content in the nine songs is pretty tame and the polar opposite of edgy.
