It's time to party like It's 1989 once more, well not for me, as I wouldn't have wanted to hear this in 1989, it wasn't anywhere near druggy enough for my tastes back then. But Wolfsbane's debut album Live Fast, Die Fast was a template for part of the Glam Thrash metal scene back then. They have got the classic line-up of Blaze Bayley, Jase Edwards, Jeff Hateley and Steve Danger back into the studio and re-recorded that debut album. I won't compare this to the original recording as I don't own the album. Wolfsbane are one of those bands I've seen live a few times but didn't buy the records.
The album opens with Manhunt that rages out the speakers like they are on a mission to find just the right man for them, like the leather clad warriors they are, the guitars are super speedy thrashy and intense, with Blaze Bayley's vocals going full on screamo in places, but never letting go of the bands need to find another man, no matter how much they try to claim they are being chased by girls it seems more likely that they are chasing those men themselves.
Shakin it may be better if your sensitive, not to read the lyrics of this ode to the joys of what you can use a thermometer for, over a chugging beat and guitars set to fry and burn with intensity that will leave you Shakin all night long.
Killing Machine is full-on machine-gun riff and widdly intent, with Blaze letting us know just what a killing Machine he is, he'll slay you any moment, so let your hair down and start banging along to this full-on metal monster.
Fell Out Of Heaven is the new single from the album and has a great sing along chorus for all the loving they hope to be doing, that riff keeps everything together, then the sizzling guitar solo races away like they think they are riding speedsters at Donnington racetrack.
Money To Burn keeps the pace up, they want you to spend all your green on them, they dream of being rich rock stars able to shower you with all the gifts you need, to be convinced to love them, including a full on widdly guitar solo, just the thing to make you say Hell Yeah to them, while punching the air and singing along to the chorus.
Greasy is what they are and how they sound, this is in love with greasy biker boys and the toys they like to play with, guitar histrionics and super sharp drums, with some wonderfully questionable lyrics.
I Like It Hot was apparently nearly a huge hit for them, I know it's one of the tunes I recognise from one of the times I've seen them live over the years, or hearing it in rock clubs, this almost feels a bit toned down.
All Or Nothing is a great swaggering sing along party song, either you go for it full on or don't bother. Sod the day job, just go for it. raise up those horns and join them on this speedy metal romp.
Tears From A Fool is the lighters in the air ballad that every metal album in the late 80's had to have, so sway along with them and wipe those tears away, while they apologise for all the grief they have caused being rock gods, getting up to rock god business, they didn't mean to lead you on, but well they are who they are, so they will say sorry one widdly guitar solo at a time.
The album closes with Pretty Baby oh yeah they want to cosy on up to you and let you know what a Pretty Baby you are, they then tell us everything those Pretty Baby's do to them over blasting drums and a core riff, perfect to sing along too, they then turn the guitars into a roaring motorbike like they are ready to pull you onto the pillion and ride off into the sunset at 100MPH with you.
