Our Rating:
How Long Can It Last is the latest album from New York based jangle poppers Jeanines who are a trio of Alicia Jeanine, Jed Smith and Maggie Gaster whose 13 songs in 22 minutes are all concise but fully realized pop vignettes.

The album opens with To Fail that re-uses a Spacemen 3 guitar motif, transforming it into a jangle pop anthem to glorious or is it inglorious failure, with the dead pan vocals reminding me a little bit of Meatjoy. You Can't Get It Back has a more 60's power pop feel, as if they know you can't go back to those dreadful halcyon days of the 60's, they get all sticky trying to find a way to straighten things out, while sounding like The Byrds fronted by Mary Hopkins. You'll Figure It out seems appropriate as I figure out the references used in the previous song; This has wistful longing for resolution to a problem that they don't think will ever be solved.

Coaxed A Storm of jangling guitars to make clear this argument is final, no turning back, they are flouncing out the door, even if it turns out to be their own apartment, another kitchen sink drama unfolds. That's What You Say obviously Alicia has a different version of the events that tore them apart, they won't be putting mind over matter, the deceptively pretty jangle pop backing doesn't take away from the bitterness in the lyrics. What's Done Is Done takes a childhood tale from when the world was still fun, if only we could still say that today, all the sorrows that have happened since that day when you were six.

On And On isn't advertising washing machines, but is super speedy jangle pop punk, for keeping on that path and going for it, in love with wistful new wave with high pitched vocals. What's Lost may well one day be found, these feelings are running from shame like they are in an episode of Sex In The City the indie wallflower years. What You Do is drive her to distraction, she just can't figure you out will you never change, can she change too, well maybe they will just have to jangle on to the end of time, trying to convince themselves change is possible.

One Art is enough, but which one, they reflect on remembrance of things and acts past, the glory days of college, when College rock was all the rage and you could still be sweet to each other. Satisfied your out on a tear up, going for it, in less salubrious ways to The Dirty Strangers Satisfied that I heard over the weekend, but can anything bring you happiness, will you ever be satisfied, as much as playing another cute jangle pop song satisfies the Jeanines.

How Long Can It Last, well hopefully longer than the one minute forty-eight seconds of this song, ode to another brief liaison that was meant to be love till eternity, the signs were there from the beginning of course, how did they not see it coming. The album closes with Wrong Direction one last brief ode to falling for the wrong person once again, loves lottery doesn't seem to favour them, still at least they got another cool song out of it.
