Review: 'RIVERS, REVERE'
'I Was Born of Water'

-  Label: 'Regional Records'
-  Genre: 'Soul' -  Release Date: '22nd August 2025'-  Catalogue No: 'RR0116'

Our Rating:
Blending Staz-infused spirituals with leisurely blues, this is a confident debut by a Kansas City-based singer-songwriter.

The album is produced by Marvin Etzioni and David Ralicke arranged horns.

Rivers is an old soul motivated by trust in love, faith and humanity and fired by a hatred of Lofty Politics.

A Girl Named Happiness is about finding joy after some dark notes of the soul. The low key performance in the video for this song emphasises the melancholy mood which shadows the newly found contentment.

Religion seems to offer his ultimate consolation. In the closing track No Regrets Now he sings: ”Fire by the lake / Home movies to make /A chill's in the air /God's everywhere.”

The breezy Chuggin’ Down The Tracks prevents things getting too heavy but these are earnest songs about looking for reasons for hope in the knowledge that clouds are never far away.
