Indie hero is the latest single from early 90's Indie synth pop legends Laptop whose long time main man Jesse Hartmann got pick of this year's draft in latest recruit Charlie Hartmann, his son who sings and plays alongside Lulu Hartman, Anna Heddad, Geddys "Ch4se" Ferguson, Arthur Lewis, Mike Desmarais, Lluisen Capafons, Dima Faustov, Lev Borovskiy, Santo Fazio, Oliver Freiberg. Produced by Jesse Hartman, Recorded by Iñaki Ariste Aznar (Valencia), Edward Douglas (NYC), Jesse Hartman (NYC/Nevis), Mixed by Jesse Hartman, Ray Aldaco, Edward Douglas (final mix by Jesse Hartman & Edward Douglas), Mastered by Dave Trumfio.
The EP opens with Indie Hero a synth pop epic about going on tour to Japan, playing with one of your heroes and all the ups and downs and crushed dreams along life's highways, reality not matching your dreams, trying not to fall into the void on droids, while the beat worms itself inside you, dancing breaks out, you join in with the clap track, everyone in time together now, we wanna go to Japan.
I Don't Know is school boy reflections of a test you will flunk over and over, while we all chant along, he daydreamed his education away, not connecting to the subject matter, rejecting it in favour of his own journey of discovery, once he knows the number of a tasty harmonica player, because he's still just a kid, if your squeamish they have a radio edit.
Additional Animals is super catchy wonky synth pop begging to add to the home menagerie, while wondering how to put food in everyone's mouths, or is Additional Animals code for something completely different, the dubby horn section might help along with everyone they list.
The EP closes with Weirder an anthem for our times that are truly getting Weirder all the time on this Planet, this is a perfect song to chant along too at random street protests, although chanting lets research this lets research that might drive some authorities over the edge, so play this carefully, the next album is due out soon considering how late this review is.
