Review: 'PINK GREASE'
'STRIP'

-  Genre: 'Pop' -  Release Date: '10th January 2004'-  Catalogue No: 'PM595'

Our Rating:
Although there's no denying their typically gritty Northern graft and their staggering work ethic, somehow this writer just can't get on with Sheffield's PINK GREASE.

Sadly, new single "Strip" is no exception either. Produced by former Black Grape acolyte Stephen Lironi, it's got a strategically simple hook and initially tastes like an addictive quick fix of whey-faced Glam pop. The trouble is, like all junk food it doesn't satisfy in the long run and by the time the strafeing synth bit they seem to have stolen wholesale from The Stranglers' "The Raven" crops up at the middle eight, a nasty aftertaste has begun to kick in and you're again beginning to wonder why you bothered.

B-side "Physical Reaction" does little to turn their fortunes round either. Resolutely steeped in the same sickly and undernourished thrills that have become their stock-in-trade, it's fun for a few seconds, but ultimately about as revolutionary as a fight in a sweet shop and as innovative as re-runs of Corrie.

I dunno. Maybe it's the New Year hangover or something, but in my eyes Pink Grease remain a smear that's all too easily wiped away. They desperately need to stop peddling this disposable Glam-pap if they really want to leave a mark.
