Everything Shattered is the eighth album by alternative supergroup Detroit Illharmonic Symphony who feature members of T.S.O.L., Black Flag and Circle Jerks. The album features music from the animated film I'd Rather Be Turned Into Cat Food. Detroit Illharmonic are Raga Roni, Cool Walt, Max Galbreath, Jack Grisham, Keith Morris, Cecilia Suhr, Venetia Phillips, Malyque Smith and Diana Lynn. Produced by Raga Roni, except Everything Is Shattered produced by Paul Roessler, Recorded by Donny Baker at ES Audio, Raga Roni at Evil Cat Land and Everything Is Shattered recorded by Paul Roessler at Kitten Robot Studios. I have not seen the film this soundtracks, so I guess what might be happening on screen.
The album opens with the first of the anthems for our times Everything Is Shattered a searing indictment of how everything you thought was real and true about society has been blown to pieces, truth is an illusion, how can you even matter with the world as it currently is, guitars are raging and dual vocals need the industrial clanking percussion.
If You Cooperate is a chilling song for 2025, strings adding to the fraught tension of what might happen If You Cooperate with the authorities and what it is they demand, helicopter blades whir above you, who will survive the American tragedy.
Welcome To Fear City could be an anthem for Minneapolis St Paul as it currently is, the fear ICE has come knocking, over the western soundtrack gone hip hop backing, for a 21st century Sergio Leone tale, of overbearing authorities running rampant, that this could easily soundtrack.
I Can Give You More is a rapped song that reminds me of Jack Hashtag, taking a deep dive on alternative culture and its place in the band's life, the way they have negotiated the zeitgeist. Doo Doo On A Stick maybe what they want everyone to arm themselves with, in case of an invasion by forces of destruction, who should be showered with Doo Doo On A Stick at every opportunity. Just getting a crowd to chant the chorus should disarm your enemies.
Ruby's Song sounds like she more than deserved to have a catchy alternative indie anthem written about her, so don't try to claim this is about anyone else but Ruby. Who Loves You has buzzsaw guitars and frantic vocals asking just Who Loves You and you better have an answer for them, no matter what you've been doing.
Night Of The Raccoons has a cartoon chase with drum solo and organ fills feel to it. She's Never Gonna Leave me is bubble gum pop with a slight twist, but with some very cool sound effects because life is laughing at you again.
You Gotta Take it Easy Baby if you wanna get his love and survive America in the 2020's. Shiro Kuroko has a church organ intro into what sounds like the theme song from a dark anime film.
You Have One Minute To Disperse is a chilling message to hear in the current climate, what will happen if you don't, will they start firing tear gas or jut start killing you for standing up for your rights, this has a scary enough edge to it, whatever you do try to stay safe when the announcement happens.
Sea Otter Goes To College is one of those news stories they used to have that made everyone feel a little happier after all the bad news on the rest of the programme. This would soundtrack the Sea Otters journey to the lecture halls on their first day at college. The album closes with Destroy God that has angry guitars and forceful drumming trying to make the case clear as to why we should move into a post god society through instrumental music.
