The Doomed Bird of Providence started out in London in 2009 as a means for Mark Kluzek to write songs about early colonial times in his home country of Australia. It has evolved into a bigger project with other performers to flesh out his original vision,
The 5th album in the name of the cursed avian is an acoustic instrumental collection of four longer pieces lasting six to nine minutes together with four shorter prologues of around two minutes in duration. The tracks use circular shaped scores that apparently encourage a mixture of approaches to improvisation.

The poetic sounding titles suggest a nautical connection with a ship navigating storms and darkly rolling waves” with the title of the final track, Towering Above the Wreck, indicating that the sea craft meets with a bitter end.
Despite this drama, the tunes are relatively gentle and have the feel of wistful sea shanties minus any drunken revelry.
