According to their press blurb, Leeds quintet STARBODIXA have previously released two EPS and a limited-edition single, not to mention setting fire to audiences in the provinces for the past three years or so.
However, "Give Me Rain" - a taster for their forthcoming debut LP, "And They Danced On Glass" - represents the first time they've blipped onto your reviewer's radar and, judging by the results here, that album could well have plenty to offer.
"Give Me Rain" is stylish and haunting in broadly equal spoonfuls and by no means obviously derivative, wallowing in its' own ebbs and flows. The band have the ability to both hang back and let loose and vocalist ANNA ELIAS copes nicely with either "ethereal" or "screechy."

Second track, "Parasite", though, is even better. Against a backdrop of echo and fingerpicked acoustic guitar, ELIAS relates a tale of bittersweet love lost and wanting to burn her links with the past. The way she confesses: "I'm living off your memories, I'm learning how to breathe" is particularly poignant.
Promising and tantalisingly short, "Give Me Rain" and "Parasite" are classy attention-grabbers for the time being. Now wheel out that album. (7/10)
