Review: 'PILFA CONFESSION BOX'
'THREE TRACK DEMO CD'

-  Genre: 'Heavy Metal' -  Release Date: 'February 2005'

Our Rating:
PILFA CONFESSION BOX are a quintet of rockers from the internationally recognised epicentre of heavy metal (Leighton Buzzard), ready to vent their collective spleen at the rest of the world. Now, whilst you can only tell so much from three tracks, the songs on this promo demonstrate that this band are capable of pulling off all of the different metal strains established back in those halcyon days of proper rock. If I remember correctly, there’s the full on guitar frenzied onslaught (‘Visions of Rosemary’), the power ballad-cum-headbanger (‘Deeper’) and the scary, grimacing tongue wobbler (‘Easy Feed’).

Visions of Rosemary is the standout track of the three, utilising singer Dan Smith’s amazingly powerful voice to the max; with a distinct nod towards the likes of Bruce Dickinson or Mike Patton out of Faith No More, we’ve certainly not heard anyone holler like this for a while. But he’s not the only one in the band; check out the guitar tapping on Deeper and the mosh-inducing powerchords and superhuman fret-wankery of Easy Feed – adrenaline-fuelled doses of angry noise, one and all.

It’s time British metal was put back on the map, so turn Pilfa Confession Box up to eleven and do that devil’s head gesture thing with your hands. The boys from the Buzzard are circling their prey, ready to swoop…
