Review: 'DEPARTURE, THE'
'LUMP IN MY THROAT'

-  Label: 'PARLOPHONE'
-  Genre: 'Indie' -  Release Date: '4th April 2005'

Our Rating:
It seems like only yesterday Franz Ferdinand emerged with their skinny side parting chic. But it wasn't yesterday: it was almost two years ago and now we have an influx of arty (or is it spiky?) new new wave XTC/Gang of Four riddled bands. One of these being The Departure.

The success of previous singles 'All Mapped Out' and 'Be My Enemy' have effectively set the blueprint so don't expect 'Lump in My Throat' to rock the foundations. David Jones' quintessentially English twang meets dark(ish) retro rhythms that verge on New Order, but comparisons with their contemporaries north of the border prove to be almost inescapable. Probably because they were signed in the frenzy of Franz's success.

Still, with three strong singles the album's probably going to be worth picking up. Even if you don't like side partings.
