Review: 'Magic Wands'
'Wishing Well'

-  Label: 'Metropolis Records'
-  Genre: 'Pop' -  Release Date: '24.4.26.'

Our Rating:
Wishing Well is the latest EP by Los Angeles based duo Magic Wands who originally started out in Nashville and earlier in there career had songs used on the soundtracks to among other shows and films Gossip Girl and Vampire Diaries, this time around they also have special guest John Ashton (Psychedelic Furs) on Sacred Mirrors, he sent them his guitar parts and they built the tune around them. Magic Wands are Dexy and Chris Valentine. A remix ep is also out now.

Wishing Well opens with Starline a rich enveloping swirl of guitars and Dexy's seductive vocals, drawing us deep into the enigmatic world of Magic Wands once more. Wishing Well adds more layers of mystery and reverb to the histories they see coming undone, while the insistent beat allows all the guitars and synths to accentuate the vocals in intriguing ways.

Sacred Mirrors featuring John Ashton has dark intense guitars and swirling ephemeral synths, searching for happiness while gazing in a Sacred Mirror, dreaming of finding the divine within, while gazing at the brightest stars.

Yesterday's Dream of being ethereal goth's next big thing is still alive, the piano being a delicate counterpoint to the swirling guitars and breathy vocals, Golden hopes that things are in fact Golden and you won't feel the need to runaway from everything, so you can be lovers in amongst the doomy guitars and sense that you are walking a fine line.

The ep closes with Hide (Remaster) taking an insistent gothy guitar line and lighter keyboards, for one more slightly haunted song for someone who is lost in the maze of life and doesn't know which way to turn to get things back on solid ground.
