Review: 'YING YANG TWINS'
'WAIT (THE WHISPER SONG)'

-  Label: 'TVT RECORDS'
-  Genre: 'Hip-Hop' -  Release Date: '2005'

Our Rating:
If PITBULL’s lyrics are laughable in their puerility, rap duo YING YANG TWINS’ are just crass and quite frankly indefensible. I’m no prude but do you honestly believe there is any artistic merit in lyrics that repeat the words, “Ay bitch! Wait ‘til you see my dick / Imma beat dat pussy up”?

Whatever consenting adults determine as their sexual preference is the business of nobody else but themselves. However, on ‘Wait (The Whisper Song)’ the YING YANG TWINS are not celebrating such sexual freedoms nor, more disturbingly, are they interested in any idea of consensus, they are simply bragging about the pain they can inflict upon a woman: “I keep a hoe hot when I'm puttin' in work/Wanna skeet skeet you bout to get your feelin's hurt /Cuz I'll beat dat cat with a dog /And knock da walls of a broad til she scrawl”.

Nowhere on this record is there any indication that the sex is being enjoyed by the woman or that “rough” sex is mutually agreed upon. Indeed YING YANG TWINS gleefully revel in the fact that the woman has not encountered sex like this before: “Do it up slappin ass cuz the sex gets rough / Switch the positions and ready to get down to business /So you can see what you've been missin' /You might had some but you never had none like this / Just wait til you see my dick”.

I said that these lyrics were “indefensible” but of course I was incorrect. The defence is called freedom of speech. I also acknowledge that rap and hip hop is supposed to reflect life “on the streets” but none of that detracts from the fact that this is just plain wrong on every level and – to pick one from a barrel-load of criticisms - a blatant disregard for the inherent responsibilities that come with such freedoms.

If anyone out there claims to love a woman in any shape or form – mother, sister, partner – then express that other freedom, choice, by ignoring this contemptible piece of shit.
