This is the third studio album by Anglo-American folk duo Alicia Best (US), and Robert Jackson (UK) who met while busking in Ireland. They are now based in North Carolina.
Influences on their Americana-tinged sound include Gillian Welch, The Avett Brothers and John Prine,
The crowd-funded eleven-track LP is described as “an intimate celebration and a call to action” and features songs about addiction, loneliness, intergenerational trauma, and the abuse of power.
Despite the heaviness of these themes, they speak in terms of the healing power of music and working towards a brighter future. In the opening song, Over Again, they sing “Come on and share in our hope.”
Recording began in their tiny home studio and was concluded at Alma Vale Studio in the UK. The harmonies are rich and the melodies are pleasantly catchy.
It’s a nice enough record without being particularly memorable.
