Review: 'BLUEST SKY, THE'
'Birdland'

-  Label: 'Self Released'
-  Genre: 'Alt/Country' -  Release Date: '12th June 2026'

Our Rating:
Birdland is the fourth album by this New England-based alt-country/Americana band built around the songs of Chuck Melchin who, for more than fifteen years, was frontman of the Bean Pickers Union.

Melchin is accompanied by Jabe Beyer on guitars for seven of the tracks while Andy Santospago picks up the axe for a couple of tunes.

The ten songs are mostly relatively short three minute numbers. Only Isabella cracks the five minute mark.

For all the talk of ”full band bangers, howling organ and screaming telecasters” the muted quality to the tunes making this is a fairly sleepy affair.

There are vague shades of Neil Young but the sound is less like a hurricane and more like a gentle breeze. If this was a car journey this would be undertaken in cruise mode with none of the tracks likely to make the driver speed up or pull over.
