STONEBRIDGE comes from Sweden, not a country I had associated with cheese.
STONEBRIDGE specialises in the variety of cheese known as hi-tempo disco/dance as his previous ‘hits’ ‘Put ‘Em High’ and ‘Take Me Away’ testify. Less pungent than those offerings – by virtue of having no tune – this time he’s roped in ULTRA NATE to provide the soul/funk vocals for ‘Freak On’.
Actually, whereas ‘Take Me Away’ FEATURED Therese on vocals, ‘Freak On’ is VERSUS Ultra Nate. I’ve discovered that if a track FEATURES a guest singer you’re allowed to pay them with luncheon vouchers whereas if it’s VERSUS a guest singer you’re limited to Green Shield Stamps and bobbins.
You may recall Ultra Nate’s 1997 smash ‘Free’. As that was eight years ago and given her reappearance as part of this pressed curd of milk she probably qualifies for the title of “legendary diva”. Apparently this allows her to open brand new supermarkets, to have the blue Smarties removed from the tube and to wear sunglasses in poorly lit stairwells.

Featuring an old 808 drum machine STONEBRIDGE employs some 80s trickery to add some artificial flavouring to his bland Scandinavian Edam. ULTRA NATE tries hard to convince you that you should “get your freak on tonight” with her because she “just wants to dance tonight” as tomorrow she has a pressing engagement with the UN Overseas Finance Committee and a maths problem to solve for NASA.
