The album opens with Falling Up that has bright guitars and upbeat power poppy vocals for the breakup of another relationship, but he feels that it is much more like Falling Up, hopefully not in the way some politicians fall up throughout their careers.
The title song Where The Sidewalk Ends takes a funky strutting bassline, adds some disco inflected guitar, with Jonny's rather late 80's new wave pop vocals for this urgent inquisition to the limits of your desire, making sure you don't fall off the end of that sidewalk.
Hideaway almost sounds like A-Ha style 80's synth pop, for the visions he has of you in that Hideaway. Magnifying Glass is Randy Newman style balladeering over a slow bassline and synth lines, the guitar coming in and out while all the adventures you had get examined.
Who We Are has an indie pop urgency, part college rock and part power pop, with a synth twist or three, while trying to look inwards and make sure to change Who We Are to help create a better world.
Overwhelmed may leave you asking the classic question can you be Whelmed, while listening to the spry jangle pop, looking for love and adventure, hoping that everything going on in the world today doesn't Overwhelm you.
Sweet Charlene he will do anything to make you his, in a catchy 80's style synth pop song that jangles enough to owe Prefab Sprout some thanks, while he brings all his Neighbours fantasises into reality.
Bitter Moon takes an almost reggae beat, adds guitars and synths in a Psychedelic Furs poppy kind of way, he just doesn't care about anything other than what happened under the Bitter Moon to tear you apart, to that rockabilly guitar that appears when things get a bit more dance oriented.
Long Lost Daze Of Romance sounds like it was meant to be the theme tune to some very 80's inspired rom-com, that happens over spring break on the Jersey shore, the jocks are walking off with the women he wants to romance again, how will he deal with all the agonies those girls put him through.
Jonny closes the album by throwing us all a Lifeline, hoping it's not too late to return to a world full of peace and love instead of hate and bile, can you throw him that Lifeline and give him all the love he craves, almost craving it more than he craves a keytar to go wild on.
