Review: 'HUTCHINSON, HAYLEY'
'HERE'S THE LOVE'

-  Label: 'GUT (www.gutrecords.com)'
-  Genre: 'Indie' -  Release Date: '18th July 2005'

Our Rating:
York singer/ songwriter HAYLEY HUTCHINSON'S debut album "Independently Blue" was a confident and accomplished affair from left field DIY land that deserved to spread her reputation as a talent worth watching. It clearly helped open some doors as well, as Hayley's debut single "Here's The Love" now comes to us via the discerning people at Gut Records, her new label.

Actually, all three tracks included here are culled from her album, so this is a good opportunity for either a refresher or to get acquainted anew.   "Here's The Love" is surely one of the album's most immediate moments with its' catchy percussive backdrop, swoony guitars and way sultry voxe from Hayley. It's coloured by splatches of Hammond and shivery lead guitar and is descriptive, easy-going and friendly.

"Minor Key," meanwhile, is considerably more reflective, though some funky drums also sweep through the haze and instil some backbone. Vocally, Hayley sounds cool and unruffled and the music ebbs and flows impressively, as it does with the sparser, closing "Happy Endings", a bittersweet treat that also closes the parent album. Here, Hayley is souble-tracked vocally and so close-miked, you're up and down the frets with her. Once again she pulls off a fine vocal and again brings Linda Thimpson to mind as the piano embellishments make their quiet presence felt.

A very likeable three-track single and definitely worth investing in.
