'THE GHOST OF YOU'

-  Genre: 'Rock' -  Release Date: '22nd August 2005'

Our Rating:
There's a grim inevitability to this happening when your reviewer comes into contact with something broadly adhering to 'Emo', so it may not surprise the regular readers out there to discover this writer taking a pretty instant dislike to MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE'S new single "The Ghost Of You."

I mean, I've almost got to the point where I'm developing a complex about this stuff. Is it just that I have cloth ears or does this single - as it appears to - sound utterly interchangeable with anything I've been unfortunate enough to have heard by the likes of Brand New, Early November and a load of equally clueless, cliche-peddlers from the other side of the Atlantic? It does? Well, there you are.

So there's not much else to report, really, save for the fact that "The Ghost Of You" goes for the slow'n'yearning vote rather than the usual upbeat'n'whiny Emo vote, but it's every bit as dreary for all that, and even desperately drafting in Franz Ferdinand knob twiddler Rich Costey for mixdown can't salvage anything savoury from this particular dog's dinner.

No doubt plenty of you out there will be delighted to point out the error of my ways. And that's great. There are, after all, 10 comments you can post answering my review. But I should warn you in advance that I'm immune. My Chemical Romance can happily pass me by and it's probably my loss. But believe me: it's one I can live with.

Takes the cake for "Worst Album Cover Of The Year". Hands down.
