Review: 'MAAS, TIMO'
'SHIFTER'

-  Label: 'PERFECTO'
-  Genre: 'Dance' -  Release Date: 'APRIL 2002'-  Catalogue No: 'PERF31CDP'

Our Rating:
Superstar Teutonic DJ TIMO MAAS staked out a pitch in the venomously competitive dance market with his recent impressive debut album “LOUD” and subsequently crashed into the Top 20 singles chart with the uncompromising and filthy “To Get Down.”

“SHIFTER” sounds like it should have little difficulty in hijacking the charts upper reaches a second time, as its’ no-nonsense, machine-tooled perpetual motion vibe whacks you squarely in the gut. And it hurts real good.

“Loud” included collaborations with the likes of KELIS and FINLAY QUAYE, but possibly “SHIFTER”S most attractive feature is MC CHICKABOO’S vocal. Although Brummie by birth, it’s tough to refute her burgeoning “new GRACE JONES” tag as she delivers a vocal pregnant with scowling, androgynous undertones. There’s nothing ambiguous about the lust-fuelled lyrics, though. CHICKABOO’S clearly the kinda girl who ain’t gonna come home alone on a Saturday night, so beware. You have been warned.

“SHIFTER” arrives with an extensive mix package including a cool instrumental version that drops this skittery delight bang in the middle of squelch city, but it’s still the catchy, addictive Radio Mix (i.e the main version) that’ll claw you in. Already clearly a star in the ascendant, “SHIFTER” will do TIMO MAAS’ blossoming reputation no harm at all.
