Review: 'DEAD DRIVE FAST'
'SOLSTICE OF THE SOUL EP'

-  Label: 'SELF RELEASED'
-  Genre: 'Rock' -  Release Date: 'SEPTEMBER 2005'

Our Rating:
Apparently DEAD DRIVE FAST. Not seen it myself other than in Horror films but I’ll take it as read. In my view it’s The Living who drive fast you should be worried about. The amount of near-misses I’ve had this year. And that’s another thing: when was the law passed that says: ‘From now on don’t bother using your indicator at roundabouts and/or junctions’? Hmm?

Transportation issues aside DEAD DRIVE FAST are a trio (that’s a good start) from St.Louis who came together in 2003 and go by the names of Alias Alan (oh dear) on Drums, Michael Lee on bass and jDouglas Cameron (that’s right jDouglas) on guitar and vocals. They’ve already released two albums, the latest eponymous effort receiving a favourable review at W&H.

DEAD DRIVE FAST sound like a very good pub band with a sideline in grunge, a preference that refuses to be updated by the current trends for the ghastly generical reclassification of Metal. Pearl Jam have already been mentioned but I’ll also throw Soundgarden into the ring. In truth this threesome are fairly handy song-writers, although they’ll not be winning any awards for originality in either the musical or lyrical departments. That said they let rip in a convincing way and at times the ‘epic’ compellingly overcomes the blokey barstool bruising blues.

Alliteration: dontcha love it?

Last track ‘Slow Motion Silence’ is the choice pick of this three track EP. On the song they manage to discard all notions of their pub origins and grunge and riff and riff and grunge in a way that could conceivably provoke an outbreak of air guitar in the more discerning junior listener. I’d give it a go but I’m far too old for that kind of thing. But I’m there in spirit.
