And while we're on the subject of geography, a couple of fleeting listens to THE MOST TERRIFYING THING'S new single "The Pianist" would never convince you the band hail from Liverpool.
Because, whether you like it or not, it's difficult these days to think of new Liverpool pop bands without the likes of The La's or The Coral springing to mind. Naturally, the illustrious city has always cast it's net wider and deeper than many critics have given it credit for (try Viper Records magnificent "Unearthed Liverpool Cult Classics" series as the starting point of your research), but even this reviewer doesn't recall too many Merseyside bands taking Husker Du and Feeder as their starting points.
So THE MOST TERRIFYING THING set out a different sonic stall from the off. They are a quartet featuring Pricey (vocals/ guitar), Paul Champion (drums), Glenn Noble (bass) and guitarist David Masson. They readily own up to a post-hardcore and Seattle-related influence debt and - on the basis of "The Pianist" - produce powerful, guitar-driven gear with an ear for icy ferocity and chromatic intrigue. And are appealingly loud to boot, especially when they apply pedal to metal come the chorus.

Despite their name, then, The Most Terrifying Thing are actually a fine band to behold. Oh, and for the Trivial Pursuit heads out there, their former name Audioslave was bought by some obscure geezer called Chris Cornell. Not a lot of people know that. For now.
