Sprightly Jealous Records and merchants of the permanent swerve, THIS ET AL, have knocked out another unavoidably collectable chunk of vinyl here.
THIS ET AL bring rasping chords and melodic lurches right up to the hard place of drum trashing and bass plummeting that is their own holy noise. Wu, the improbably named vocalist, squalls a convincing line through the wreckage, It's intelligently acerbic music that could still break out a smile on late evening radio.
A side WARDENS has the lighter pop touch that could start some asymmetric lunging at the indie night. Despite the scary collection of tone qualities and dynamic daredevilry, the tempo keeps tripping along at an agreeable manic speeed.

B side Rotary Queen is more soulful squeal of anguish, with plenty of Icelandic bombast to complement the opening grungy textures. Nearly five minutes long, it draws me in with elegantly developed loudness. I even spotted a little Explosions in the Sky added as a wry little epilogue. The scamps. THIS ET AL, already established among people who know these things as "full of promise" are rushing through the musical ageing process at speed. This is a mature and rounded release.
