Our Rating:
On first listen, I thought PRINCESS SUPERSTAR was an Eminem wannabe, given that she sounds just like a female version of the happy rapper - but her single "My Machine" rapidly got under my skin and once it settled, it simply refused to go away. Is it a club classic? I don't know, but if its not, then it should be.

First the music, it's bouncy, it's hard, it's scratchy and industrial, and it worms its way into your head. Then the lyrics start to jump out at you, pure in-your-face barmy eccentric weirdness with bags of attitude. Proof? the story of this particular song is as follows...

Hypothetically, she asks, if you could have a machine to make you into "anything you wanted to be", then what would it be? She gets turned into a carton of cereal in a supermarket by accident (don't ask), gets bought, and then eaten by a small and unhealthy child (she see's the state of the child's body and tries to "patch it up with gum"), and finally is digested and excreted - thankfully that part doesn't go into too much detail.

On her bizarre journey she realises that the world is quite a bad place and she just wants to be herself (as opposed to a lump of digested cereal). But not before wanting to be a "band-aid the size of a giant pancake," that would be "wrapped around the world to heal the heartache". But its ok, because thankfully none of it really happened as the machine didn't exist in the first place.

Princess Superstar is a bit of a goer on the New York scene, she's certainly got a gritty quality about her, but by all accounts she's as shrewd a business woman/songwriter/producer as she is a complete nutcase. If nothing else, she is an intriguing artist who is producing great tunes right now. Her album, also called "My Machine" is a futuristic hip hop/dance concept album that has been picking up rave reviews left right and centre. She is definately worth checking out.

And if thats not enough, she was named as one of "The Most 50 Beautiful New Yorkers " in New York Magazine, and she has her own pet boy band as well. I am liking her style.
