Rounding off what has been a tumultuous year for Leeds' indie brothers in arms THE CRIBS, "You're Gonna Lose Us" is the first new recording since their exuberant second album "The New Fellas" and their first with Bernard Butler taking over in the producer's chair.
And, while it's hardly the sort of seismic of blood he got from The Libertines' collective stone with "What A Waster", it's another typically cocky, in-your-face slice of anthemic, yobby pop action from the brothers Jarman, launched by some wonky and surprisingly skinny'n'funky guitar before it swaggers off with a lascivious twinkle in its' eye.
It comes in both 'clean' and 'dirty' guise, though I can detect little difference save for the apparent reference to "shit on your own doorstep" in the 'dirty' version. Indeed, unless my ears have re-aligned themselves, the 'clean' version all includes that euphoric "when I drink I can be an arsehole, that doesn't mean I've got no class though" catchline sans bleeps, which makes you wonder why they bothered really. Still, regardless of that bemusing technicality, the reality of said statement is something we can surely all relate to. So fair enough.

Double A-side "The Wrong Way To Be", meanwhile, is an already familiar terrace-bound anthem from "The New Fellas" and finds Ryan and Gary hollering for all their overworked little lungs are worth. It's hardly rocket science and (for me) isn't one of the better tracks from the album, but that observation hasn't prevented it from already confirming itself as a live favourite and it does enough to remind us - again - that if you like your indie guitars fizzy and exciting and your observations nicely sardonic then The Cribs are surely the ideal short-term band for you.
