'Self Portrait' is an album full of gentle love ballads and funky jazzy tunes. Quite a contrast of sounds, but it works together surprisingly well.
Tracks such as 'Get Out Of My Life' and 'Party People' are funky, up beat offerings with 'phat' keyboard chords, syncopated beats and off beat singing and mixes nicely with some of the slower songs like aptly named 'Nice And Slow' and 'Your Light.'
The overall effect is that the album sounds like a throw back from the 80s when musicians would fuse jazz beats into slow-dance tunes, producing something played in hotel lobbies and lifts world wide.
A laid back, sophisticated release from MATT DIBBLE which will unfortunately pass right over a lot heads, but will be loved and cherished by a select few.
