Review: 'HOUSE, SUSAN'
'The Light of Christmas'

-  Genre: 'Pop' -  Release Date: '2005'

Our Rating:
Singer/songwriter Susan House (http://www.susanhouse.com) strikes again with another Christmas CD single, her second for 2005. As with the previous "Santa's Perfect Gift," House is using her own material on "The Light of Christmas."

Composed by House and David Gerstenberger, "The Light of Christmas" doesn't have the same feel as "Santa's Perfect Gift." While they're both welcome new additions to the oldies-stuffed Xmas catalog, "The Light of Christmas" has a decidedly straightforward approach, eschewing the tongue-in-cheek innocent humor of "Santa's Perfect Gift" for a decidedly reverent homage to the holiday.

Like in "Santa's Perfect Gift," House's vocals are what attracts the ears first. Her music is jazz but her voice is definitely pop albeit more soulful than one usually hears on commercial radio. Her softly whispered singing on "The Light of Christmas" keeps the cheese at bay; there is a warmth to her vocals that makes the track comforting, caressing listeners with sincerely felt emotions.
