Whilst their sunny Latin jazz stylings remind me a little of Astrid Gilberto, WhiskyCats' lyrics tackle such contemporary concerns as compensation culture, dope-induced ennui and the irrelevance/annoyance that is NME these days (hurrah!).
Despite this, WhiskyCats don’t exactly rock my world. They are undoubtedly very good musicians, but it’s all a little too safe, in a Radio 2 stylee, for my liking. You can hardly blame working musicians trying for trying to break into what is a potentially very lucrative cross-generational market, but, really, it has all been done before and better by the likes of Stan Getz and Chet Baker. Perhaps live, WhiskeyCats are a more enticing proposition, but on the evidence of ‘In this chair’, they don’t like to stray too far from the middle of the road.

I heard this about two months ago, and it made my day - it's funny, catchy, and just slightly taking the piss, but with a clear love of the jazz style it's echoing.
I'm not very knowledgeable about jazz, but I like some of it - this is a good record!
