Review: 'SUGAR MONKEY'
'SO FAR TOO LATE'

-  Label: 'PEBBLE BEACH MUSIC'
-  Genre: 'Rock' -  Release Date: 'November 2005'

Our Rating:
It is difficult to know what to say when a song is neither good nor bad. The newest single from Sugar Monkey is the perfect example of this. 'So Far Too Late' is neither upbeat nor depressing; rocky, or indie, melodious or monotonous. It's just blah.

There is nothing in the song that would put off any listener in anyway, but there is nothing there, no quirk, no wobble no nothing that would attract a listener in anyway either. It's just music, background noise and nothing more.

Luckily B side 'Neverending' has a bit more to it, not a lot, but at least the chorus is memorable if not tuneful, and the singing seems heartfelt, in only the way that slow rock ballads sung by a man with his eyes closed can be. Unfortunately this isn't enough to make up for the a-side and the release leaves you feeling nothing. Meh.

Cool thing with blogs is that ANYBODY can be a music critic. Doesn't take brains. Heck, you can have tinnitus or be deaf. You can write a bad review if you hate the band members' clothing, or if you've never even heard the band at all. Problem is readers seek truth (like in zen) and are MISLED. For us who've discovered this band in a shitty li'l Oxford St club, WE LOVE IT. Because it happens to be great, as are SUGARMONKEY live. Blah? More like RAAAWWWKK! Begs the thought: "is it the tinnitus?!"

What? Amazing how you could be so wrong. It is almost as if you were reviewing another song! I heard Sugarmonkey play live on talksport (the James Whale show) and they were cool as hell. He played their single and I was happy to order it on Amazon. Clue that the review is clueless: your desciption of the vocals on the b song make no sense since it is obviously rock (maybe you simply don't rock). And why give it so few stars when you claim it is right in the middle?
