Review: 'PARKER, AKAYZIA'
'THE PARTY'S OVER (EP)'

-  Genre: 'Pop' -  Release Date: 'January 2006'

Our Rating:
When it comes to singer/ songwriters it’s quite easy to become jaded. All have acoustic guitars, lyrics about butterflies- or nature in general, or in fact anything about being in love, and at least one slow, tear jerking ballad. AKAYZIA PARKER has all of these things in her latest release, ‘The Party’s Over,’ but what differentiates her from all the Beth Orton’s, Nick Drakes and Jose Gonzales’s in the world, is her voice.

The London born singer has a sensual, husky voice, taunting and teasing listeners with breathy vocals, and although her music does follow the stereotypical path of singer/songwriters (the EP contains at least two slow, acoustic numbers) the tunes are mixed with synthesisers, gentle jazz drumming and Parker’s remarkable vocals.

The combination may not be for everyone, but it's absolutely perfect to chill out to on a lazy Sunday afternoon.
