Perhaps ’I Want You to Stay’ doesn’t have the same twists and jerks as ‘Apply Some Pressure’ and yes, it isn’t the most upbeat of smart pop highlights but it does highlight MAXIMO PARK'S continued genius for a chorus and a key change.
With ‘A Certain Trigger’ possessing some hefty single potential it’s technically a win win. It might not be the immediate indie floor filler we’re becoming increasingly accustomed to but when the chorus kicks in, the disco ball becomes clear, you can taste the rum and coke and you’re stuck in one giant, drunken man hug with random hairy strangers. Ah good times.
