Review: 'MOJO GURUS, THE'
'SHAKIN' IN THE BARN'

-  Label: 'EMPIRE MUSIC WERKS'
-  Genre: 'Rock' -  Release Date: 'January 2006'

Our Rating:
THE MOJO GURUS newest album ‘Shakin’ In The Barn’ can almost sell itself. Almost. From the title it’s clear to see that this fine group are a reelin’ and rockin’ country band out of the southern USA. Lead singer Kevin Steele has the typical slow, deep drawl heard (and expected) of country singers, and the backing band are lively affair complete with boogie-woogie piano, slide guitars and the occasional hand clapping. Their tunes are the stereotypical country songs too- with lyrics about loving a woman till she dies, driving Cadillacs and, er, taking drugs.

Occasionally though, the band break away from the clichéd country mould and play heavier, rockier tunes reminiscent of country rockers Primus. Songs such as ‘Race With The Devil’ and ‘Black Cat Blues’ scream of energy and attitude, and although the deep country feel is still there, these tunes seem edgier and more original than the predictable, churned out ‘take yo’ partner by the hand’ songs on the rest of the album.
