Review: 'TRINOVANTES'
'TRINOVANTES'

-  Label: 'PINNA'
-  Genre: 'Rock' -  Release Date: '2005'

Our Rating:
A rarely discussed but still astonishing statistic is that some 98.3 % of rock music fans are also fanatical about pre-Roman tribes of Britain. So for the benefit of the 1.7% of you who don't subscribe to 'History Weekly' along with your NME I'll let you know that TRINOVANTES were a tribe based in the Essex area who helped out Boudica in her defence of Britain from the invading Caesar and cohorts.

Now sadly defunct the band TRINOVANTES may well have been the missing link between Siouxsie & The Banshees and Republica or a band for whom the notion that Goth would be hailed as the future of pop on the cover of 'Smash Hits' - now also no longer with us - was a realistic musical ambition.

With an impish and pixie-voiced lead singer named Trix A Bell TRINOVANTES knew a good tune when they had one and were able to set out a blistering pop/rock stall if hardly an innovative one. Tracks like 'Symmetrical' had radio-friendly single written all over it while 'Majestic' and closer 'Talk Talk' gave their punkier leanings a good work-out: I particularly like the opening line of "Any old old old old iron?" on the latter.

While something of a throw-back in music, sentiment and presentation TRINOVANTES still sound like a decent band that probably had a blistering live set. One for those of you hankering for the indie days of The Darling Buds and The Primitives.
