Our Rating:
How exactly do you go about bringing about the DEATH OF FASHION? Well this Indiana four-piece decided to pop on some skinny ties, head to New York City and sign up with The Strokes first manager. Not exactly how I’d go about it personally but there you are. Citing Joy Division and The Strokes as “influences”, these lads have pinched a song title from one and the songs of the other. Each of the five tracks on this EP are Strokes by numbers – jingly jangly chords, an ending fanfare of couplets and lyrics delivered with a sigh, albeit by Julian Casablancas played at slightly the wrong speed. And it’s not just a passing resemblance, we’re getting very close to plagiarism here - if I had the time and inclination I could tell you exactly which song had been robbed and ever so slightly customised.

It’s not all bad I suppose…actually no, fuck it, it is. I was going to try and be nice there, but I really find it hard to give any credit to something so unoriginal and unimaginative, it’s bloody criminal really. The sound quality is awful too, probably intentionally to get that New York Garage Rocking sound, but it’s taken a bit far and just sounds crap. OK, there’s a nice little bit of keyboard in the lead track ‘These Days’, but even that’s a simple Killers rip off and far from enough to justify subjecting your ears to this. I’m sure their parents think they’re cool though.

Maybe this EP’s what people call a grower but I really doubt it and have no intention of finding out. Go home, get some ideas and try a lot bloody harder next time please.
