Brighton 5 piece HARDKANDY (not to be confused with the boing boing hard trance and hard style label of the same name) team up with smoky voiced Terry Callier for this offering from their “Last to Leave” album.
Sounding not entirely dissimilar to tourmates Morcheeba, “Advice” is a mournful lament to get you pondering, or at least staring off into space after a good lungful. Callier’s voice provides a soulful depth to HardKandy’s smooth production, a rich blend of the organic and electronic that nestles itself firmly and cosily into the brain.
The six remixes on offer here are all well done – the Manasseh mixes the tapas-bar of the original up a little with reggae tinges; Nu:tone turn it into a Doc Scott-esque jungly number that wouldn’t surprise if it popped out of Bukem’s box and HardKandy themselves re-rub a bit more funk into it with their own mix.
