Review: 'TAMBORINES, THE'
'WHAT TOOK YOU SO LONG?/THE GREAT DIVISION'

-  Label: 'DECADENT RECORDS'
-  Genre: 'Rock' -  Release Date: 'March 2006'-  Catalogue No: '7DEC002'

Our Rating:
Brazilian-French-Japanese-West London jangly guitar pop, that’s what this world needs. And that’s what we’ve got here with THE TAMBORINES' debut single on Decadent Records. The bassless trio give us summery, early 90’s style guitar pop in the vein of Lemonheads and earlier day Charlatans, the lack of bass along with the swirling organ helping to create a wash of guitars that we don’t hear often enough any more.

The Great Division conjures up memories of summer driving with a Mock Turtles tape playing – is that good or bad? Good I reckon, I used to enjoy driving along with the Mock Turtles album on.   Although I’m not actually sure what The Tamborines look like, in my mind they’ve got bowlcuts and sing with their heads tipped sideways, with people in the audience doing that bobbing flower type of dance that only people with jumpers with the sleeves covering their hands can do properly.

A very nice debut indeed.
