Review: 'SWINNEY, CARY'
'BIG SHOTS'

-  Label: 'JOHNSON GRASS PUBLISHING COMPANY'
-  Genre: 'Alt/Country' -  Release Date: 'February 2006'

Our Rating:
CARY SWINNEY is an artist who panders to all your preconceptions about blue-grass country bands. He has the typical Suthin’ accent, his songs feature twanging banjos and toe tapping beats and his lyrics tell moralistic stories about everyday people.

Annoyingly though, this stereotype works well for him, and once the initial involuntary gag reflex is suppressed after hearing the opening song- the equivalent of a country song on speed, the
album is a soulful, mellow offering of gentle country tunes with
surprisingly poetic lyrics (although the moral to the stories are still there) and slightly jauntier tunes.

It may be only country music, but I like it!
