Review: 'PIPETTES, THE'
'YOUR KISSES ARE WASTED ON ME'

-  Label: 'MEMPHIS INDUSTRIES'
-  Genre: 'Pop' -  Release Date: '27TH MARCH 2006'-  Catalogue No: 'MI062P'

Our Rating:
Phil Spector may be currently living under the shadow of a murder charge and an uncanny resemblance to Sideshow Bob but his musical influence continues through THE PIPETTES, 3 polka dot dressed girls from Brighton who have already turned heads with their 'Dirty Mind' single that graced 2005's first post-Peel Festive Fifty.

Using the riff from 'Something Else' and the sound of The Shangri-las as their starting point THE PIPETTES have created a mini pop marvel in 'Your Kisses Are Wasted On Me', a song that seamlessly blends feminist attitude ("Boy! Get Out of my face.") in its verse with a softer underbelly in the chorus: a chorus whose tune soars effortlessly to the roof of a pink and fluffy sequinned ball-room where young hearts are broken nightly, last dances are won and lost and four boys from Liverpool have yet to tempt teenage girls away from their bedroom dreams of beach nirvana with Frankie Avalon.

Sublime.
