Review: 'SOULAR'
'WAITING FOR TOMORROW'

-  Label: 'Self-Released'
-  Genre: 'Rock' -  Release Date: 'April 2006'

Our Rating:
Sometimes, after hearing the same kind of music over and over again, it’s rather surprising to actually enjoy listening to a band who in theory should be no different from all the other ‘modern rock bands’. What this label basically means (I think) is that as well as the expected guitar, bass and drum ensemble there’s a piano too and the bands songs are heavy on the melodies and harmonies, a prime example being New Mexican-based SOULAR.

Maybe it’s the bands distinctive, lush, many layered sound or the surprisingly honest and poetic lyrics which differentiate the group from the herd. Or the way that the album moves from middle of the road (and at times slightly dull) tunes such as ‘Take Me Away’ or ‘Never’ which are rather predictable, but still decent songs, to bigger, edgier, better constructed pieces such as ‘American dream’ and ‘So, This Is The Way It Feels.’ Whatever magic Soular have cast, it’s worked well, and ‘Waiting For Tomorrow’ is one of the unique albums that sound fresh and different from all other thousands of identical releases, without doing anything different at all.
