Review: 'DAIN, BROCK'
'A Little Bit of Everything'

-  Label: 'BDR productions'
-  Genre: 'Pop' -  Release Date: '2006'

Our Rating:
Singer/songwriter Brock Dain (http://brockdain.com) wastes no time.

The first two tracks on "A Little Bit of Everything" are among the catchiest opening twin punches you'll find on any record. "On and On" and "Missin' You (5 Years)" mark the arrival of a pop craftsman with no flash but buckets of hooks. Fueled by energized FM-friendly guitar playing, "On and On" and "Missin' You (5 Years)" hit the bull's eye. Immediately you are hooked. Dain's soaring vocals on those songs make you ache for more, and he delivers.

The San Diego-based musician will probably be compared to male solo artists like Jack Johnson and John Mayer, but Dain is less on the folk side and more rock, which is refreshing. He can also really sing instead of the talk-singing that has become so prevalent in the genre.

"Lost Friends" and "She Just Don't Know It Yet" exhibits highly appealing youthful exuberance, the latter recalling the snappy delivery of Third Eye Blind.

When Dain slows the tempo down on "The War Is Gone," a reflective track about a friend leaving to defend his country, he is just as effective and emotionally strong.
