First track Signal Noise by this Leeds 5 piece is a noisy post-punk blast, with dischordant elements, guitars set to 11 & energy simply spilling out from every pore.
Unfortunately it all sounds a bit too contrived, & you get
the feeling that this is a band trying too hard to be unstable. I do like the clean guitar in the verses over a skippy beat which works really well. The rest of the song is a bit patchy & although trying to give the impression of spontaneous dementia, leaves the listener with the distinct impression of meticulous puzzling together.
Track 2, Kingdom of Goats, is a different animal altogether – this takes fearsome vocals, string busting guitar riffs & amphetamine fuelled drumming, stirs in an unhealthy measure of bile & venom & comes up a treat. There’s no feeling of over structuring with this one – it does exactly what it screams on the tin, & works very well.
