Review: 'PIPETTES, THE'
'Pull Shapes'

-  Label: 'Memphis Industries'
-  Genre: 'Pop' -  Release Date: '3rd July 2006'-  Catalogue No: 'MI071CDS'

Our Rating:
I was delighted to find that this slice of pop heaven was also available in its ‘correct’ format, the lewdly coloured 7” single (available in orange or yellow vinyl, depending on the B-side).

The disco dynamic and ‘absolutely fabulous’ Prozac pre-chorus both inspire something deep within, however introspective you may like to think you are. ‘Pull Shapes’ is one for the body, not just the mouth, and hopefully you will vote with your feet and arms, and not some killjoy ‘crack-in-a-piecrust’ expression. Even the clinically depressed sing along.

Complete with hands-together clapping giddiness in 4/4 time, this southpaw dancer literally asks questions of the competition. The vocals are pitched to perfection, and strong harmonies prevail throughout this heavenly addiction, leaving you breathless and exhilarated.

“Is there a drum beat? And is the bass sweet?” they sing, over a high havoc sound from some crazy symphony. There is a lovely moment when the chorus drops out to leave just a splash of accordion, until the football-crowd sample cheers us right back into the escalating joy that is destined to go straight through the roof.

Absolute class from start to finish, this is a total joy to hear, and near impossible to do so sitting still. For me, it was love at first listen!
