Review: 'HEIGHTS, THE'
'JAMAICA BEER EYES'

-  Label: 'BEST BEFORE RECORDS'
-  Genre: 'Rock' -  Release Date: '19th June 2006'

Our Rating:
THE HEIGHTS have been much lauded recently, having supported the likes of up-and-comers The Morning After Girls, and releasing their catchy, desperately laddish single, “Jamaica Beer Eyes”.

The video for this single says it all, a tale of lads on the lash, throwing-up, getting blow-jobs in back alleys from seeming stunners, only to wake up next to absolute mooses, sleeping with a woman only to find out that She was a He. Vaguely entertaining, in an FHM sort of way.

The song is great, but doesn’t break away from the Four Blokes with Guitars formula. But its tried and tested, but what the hell *sigh*, if it’s not broke, why fix it? The B-Sides, “Sweet Isabelle” and “Kettle Song” are a lot better, more stripped down and personal. Like when you meet a bloke and he’s acting all ‘ard and that until you get him on your own and he transforms into a lovely sensitive young man.

Ah well, the story of our lives, eh girls?

'K'inell Sian!!!

four lads with guitars is always, always where issat. Just when you think the formula is exhausted, along comes a new set of head honchos to slay the tried, tested theory that it's all dead, and all gone wrong. Just like the single guy or gal with just an acoustic between them and the known universe, it's a type.

But don't stereotype.

I think that this single has been misunderstood because of the cover and the video .It is really about an animal "by midnight single-celled (ie -an amoeba?) The promotion didn't do The Heights any favours , but I don't think that they really come from Macholand as everything would suggest ---their cd is more about problem people that stalk the streets , not silly party types . Best Before have misrepresented them . Love all their tracks .
