Our Rating:
Seething anger and a runaway tempo crushed under the pistons of some machine houses the other worldly floating embodiment of a séance in full session driven by the rhythm section’s fog of ether. This record revels in pain, feeds off negative energy and enjoys the taste of blood as it surges onwards. Pure adrenaline fuels this equally violent reaction to the horrors of modern conflict. When the guitar’s solid pulse comes in, that’s the signal for frequencies to overload, and beyond there is unchartered territory.

When the red mist has cleared just a little in the wake of the ouija-board soundscape, it strikes again with an even stronger desire to maim and vent its spleen. The full moon/howling wolf image is redrawn for us with added terror, and the mental picture includes dark forces and tortured souls that are like leaf shadows that grow bigger with every paranoid thought.

Structurally this is the noise that leaves a trail of destruction where once there stood three verses, a chorus and a middle 8, and this is what makes it so gloriously evocative of blind rage.

‘Things You Can Do’ is bass and reed heavy, and the ambience coming after the ‘A’ side is paled by a spent exhaustion. The off-beat drums, and deep horn sounds melt into the guitar line and just simmer, with tropical birds sounding off above this dense forest of fury..

As a whole, it goes way, way beyond the cycle of aggression, and isall the more horrific as the product of thinking, conscious minds like these.

There’s also a secret track, a new version of ‘Staring At The Sun’ from their first album ‘Desperate Youth, Bloodthirsty Babes’. True to form, that’s brilliant as well!
