Review: 'MYSTERY JETS, THE'
'DIAMONDS IN THE DARK'

-  Label: '679 RECORDINGS (www.mysteryjets.com)'
-  Genre: 'Rock' -  Release Date: '14th August 2006'

Our Rating:
It’s been a whirlwind of an 18-month spell for Eel Pie Island’s finest THE MYSTERY JETS, but this first post-album smoke signal suggests their creative juices are still flowing and that they can outlast the pack for a good while yet.

Producer Stephen Street clearly sees the same idiosyncratic genius in the Jets as he did with Blur and The Smiths and ‘Diamonds In The Dark’ again makes it clear that this band’s trajectory could easily see them dropping a similar number of well-placed chart-worrying bombs along the way.   Indeed, ‘Diamonds…’ is another bubbly, sparky gem full of possibility, dominated by scratchy guitars, groovy, Dave Greenfield-style keyboard runs and Kapil Trivedi’s massive drumming, which seems to improve every time. It’ll have absolutely no problem woo-ing anyone who got fired up by the likes of ‘You Can’t Fool Me Dennis’ and ‘Alas Agnes’ and I’m glad to say the number of discerning heads who care about such things appears to still be growing. How heartening is that?
